DBT Group Program

DBT is an evidence based treatment founded by Marsha Linehan that aims to teach people how to live in the moment, develop healthy ways to cope with stress, regulate their emotions, and improve their relationships with others.

21 Weeks Program

 

Covering 4 modules

  •  Mindfulness

  • Emotion Regulation

  • Distress Tolerance

  • Interpersonal EffectivenessTo help reduce impact on your day to day life

Structure

  • 2 sessions per week, duration of 2.5 hours per session

  • 1 st session of the week – learning DBT skills

  • 2nd session of the week – practicing DBT skills, mindfulness activities and short individual session with Registered Psychologist, Maria Piedrabuena

Eligibility Criteria

  • 18+ years of age

  • Any individuals with BPD, PTSD, Bipolar, trauma or individuals who wish to learn skills to manage unstable emotions, live more fully in the present moment, express yourself effectively and calmly navigate distressing life events

  • No active suicidal risk or psychiatric hospitalisations in the past 12 months

  • Ability to commit to attend twice weekly sessions for 21 weeks

Week 1 – Orientation, rules, meet and greet, diary cards, Mindfulness intro,

Week 2 –Three states of mind, What skills, How skills

Week 3 – Loving kindness, Dialectics, Balancing doing mind vs being mind, Walking the middle path

Module 2 – Emotion Regulation

Week 1 – Understand and name emotions – model of emotions

Week 2 – Change emotional Response – Check the facts

Week 3 – Change emotional Response – Opposite action and Problem Solving

Week 4 – Decrease emotional vulnerability – ABC PLEASE

Week 5 – Mindfulness of current emotions and Managing extreme emotions

Week 6 – Review

Module 3 – Distress Tolerance

Week 1 – Crisis skills, STOP and Pros and Cons

Week 2 – TIPP

Week 3 - ACCEPTS and Self-soothe

Week 4 – IMPROVE

Week 5 – Radical Acceptance

Module 4 – Interpersonal Effectiveness

Week 2 – GIVE and FAST

Week 3 - Building Relationships - Finding people and getting them to like you and Mindfulness of others
